Load factor is the ratio of average load to peak load over a period, expressed as a percentage. It indicates how consistently capacity is utilized. Higher load factor (closer to 100%) means more efficient use of generation and transmission infrastructure. Utilities prefer high load factors as it means better return on capital investment.
